I. Latest News on EN 18031
Pursuant to EU Implementing Decision 2025/138,EN 18031-1, EN 18031-2, and EN 18031-3 standardsAs ofIt was officially incorporated into the RED Directive (2014/53/EU) on January 30, 2025....and have become harmonized standards. These standards strengthen the information requirements for wireless devices, particularly in areas such as internet-connected devices, toys, and wearable devices.
II. EN 18031 Standard
The EN 18031 series consists of three parts (EN 18031-1, EN 18031-2, and EN 18031-3), each addressing different cybersecurity requirements in the RED Directive:
• EN 18031-1: To ensure that radio equipment does not adversely affect the network or its functionality, and to prevent the misuse of network resources that could cause significant service disruption. Applies to all radio equipment capable of communicating over the Internet.
• EN 18031-2:Provide safeguards to protect the personal data and privacy of users and subscribers. Applies to devices that process personal data, such as connected devices, child-monitoring devices, wireless toys, and wearable devices.
• EN 18031-3: Ensure that networked radio equipment capable of supporting the transfer of currency or virtual currency is equipped with fraud-prevention features.
III. EN 18031 Restrictions
The adoption of this standard is subject to restrictions, with additional requirements regarding passwords, parental controls, and security updates. Although the standard permits devices without passwords, RED will not consider them compliant.For more details, please consult our team of experts.
