CR certification applies to robotic electronic products capable of autonomous movement and service delivery based on pre-programmed procedures; any product falling under the category of robotic products is eligible for CR certification.
In 2016, four ministries—the National Development and Reform Commission, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China—formally unveiled the “China Robot Certification (CR)” mark to the public at a forum and simultaneously issued the first batch of China Robot Product Certification Certificates.
The overall design of the CR logo evolved from a stylized representation of the letter “R” nested within the letter “C,” presenting a vivid robot figure set against a full circle. The letter “C” stands for “China” and “Certification,” while “R” stands for “Robot.” The logo can be interpreted as “Robot Certification” or “China Robot Certification,” reflecting the fact that, with the rapid development of the robotics industry and the continuous expansion of its application areas, issues related to robot safety, reliability, and other quality aspects have garnered widespread public attention.
CR will serve as the unified logo for China Robot Certification. Approved robot product certification bodies will uniformly use this logo to conduct robot certification. In China, there are generally two modes for obtaining CR certification:
Mode A: Type testing; the certification certificate is valid only for the submitted samples (product serial numbers are added to the certificate), and no validity period is specified;
Mode B: Type testing + factory inspection + post-certification surveillance (the certificate applies to products of the same model leaving the factory); the certificate is valid for 5 years.
Definition of a Robot
Definition of service robots according to National Standard GB/T 12643-2013: Robots capable of performing useful tasks for humans or equipment, excluding those used in industrial automation applications.
CR Scope of Certification
Industrial robot certification, service robot certification, drone certification, etc. Details are as follows:
1. Industrial Robot Certification
Evaluation of the intelligence level and reliability of robots used in various industrial environments, as well as customized measurement services.
2. Special-Purpose Robot Certification
Safety, performance, explosion-proof, and reliability evaluations, as well as customized measurement services for automated guided vehicles (AGVs), power line inspection robots, firefighting robots, mining robots, and more;
3. Service Robot Certification
Testing, evaluation, and standards for service robots, drones, smart products, and core components.
Systematic and objective testing and certification of service robots’ functions, performance, safety, environmental adaptability, and electromagnetic compatibility, as well as customized services such as non-standard testing, fault diagnosis, and consulting.
