AEC-Q104 is a standard proposed by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) that specifies reliability requirements for electronic components, with a particular focus on their reliability in automotive environments. This standard is applied in the automotive electronics field and provides a set of benchmarks for evaluating and selecting electronic components that meet the requirements of the automotive electronics industry.

The AEC-Q104 standard includes the following key requirements:

  1. Temperature Range: Electronic components must be capable of operating normally within a specified temperature range and exhibit good stability to withstand the various temperature fluctuations that may occur inside a vehicle.

  2. Humidity and Damp-Heat Environments: Electronic components must be capable of stable operation in high-humidity and damp-heat environments to withstand the effects of adverse factors such as humidity and rain inside the vehicle.

  3. Mechanical Stress and Vibration: Given that vehicles experience various jolts and vibrations while in motion, the standard requires electronic components to withstand these mechanical stresses and vibrations while maintaining good vibration resistance.

  4. Long-Term Reliability:To ensure the long-term stable operation of automotive electronic systems,AEC-Q104the standard also requires electronic components to maintain reliability over extended periods of use and exhibit a low failure rate.

AEC-Q104 also covers testing of the physical and electrical performance of electronic components, control of materials and manufacturing processes, as well as requirements for product traceability and identification. Regarding the grouping of test items, the AEC-Q104 specification is divided into eight major series (A–H), covering accelerated environmental stress testing, accelerated life simulation testing, package and assembly integrity testing, wafer fabrication reliability testing, electrical characteristic verification testing, defect screening and monitoring testing, empty package integrity testing, and module-specific testing, among other aspects.

Through a series of stringent requirements and test methods, the AEC-Q104 standard ensures the reliability and stability of automotive electronic components under various environments and conditions, providing a crucial safeguard for the sustainable development of the automotive electronics industry.
