IEC EN 61347 is one of the standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which primarily addresses electrical safety requirements for electronic equipment. The full title of this standard is “IEC 61347—Power supply devices for use with luminaires—General requirements and tests in household and similar general use.”

The IEC EN 61347 standard covers the requirements for various power supply devices, including electronic transformers, electronic ballasts, and electronic starters, which are typically used in lighting applications. This standard specifies the safety performance requirements for these devices, as well as the relevant test methods, to ensure they do not pose a hazard to people, property, or the environment during use.

The IEC EN 61347 standard outlines several important considerations for the design and manufacture of power supply devices, including:

Safety requirements: The standard requires that power supply units be designed to be safe and reliable to prevent electric shock, fire, or other accidents. This includes requirements for insulation, grounding, overload protection, and short-circuit protection.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): The standard typically also addresses the electromagnetic compatibility of power supply units, ensuring that the equipment does not generate excessive interference in an electromagnetic environment nor cause interference to other equipment.

Environmental Adaptability: Standards may also require power supply units to possess a certain level of environmental adaptability, including performance requirements under various temperature and humidity conditions.

Labeling and Marking:  Standards typically require that power supply units be labeled with relevant safety information, such as rated voltage, current, and manufacturer details, to ensure users can properly use and install the equipment.

Test Methods: Standards provide detailed descriptions of the methods and criteria for conducting various tests on power supply units to ensure the equipment meets requirements. These tests may cover electrical performance, mechanical strength, voltage withstand, insulation testing, and other aspects.

Certificates and Declarations of Conformity: Manufacturers are typically required to provide certificates or declarations of conformity demonstrating that their products meet the relevant safety standards.

The IEC EN 61347 standard is designed to ensure that power supply units meet specific safety performance requirements during design, manufacturing, and use, thereby safeguarding users and the environment. Therefore, when designing and manufacturing power supply units, it is necessary to carefully comply with all requirements of this standard.
